a new day

Though Saturday appeared to be an unassuming day, for many of us it was filled with anxiety. We had a delightful little party for curly locks Steph, then everybody left, except my family and Grandma. We played ball, watch Sam discover Mr. Potato Head, watched a movie, read about the Civil War, and she insisted on cleaning the kitchen. Dinnertime rolled around accompanied by everybody else. As soon as the meal was complete, it was time for "a girls' night out."

Everyone looks happy, but this was the longest girls' night ever. We took my 90 year old grandma to her new home. While she spent the day with me, my sisters and all those strong men moved her things to an assisted care facility. The night was full of tears, confusion, trying to sort things out. Amanda and April spent the night with her. Sunday was a bit sad, but filled with new friendly faces and three amazing meals. Monday, she spoke barely a word about the past homes. By night, she had never lived somewhere else. She was home.

So it seems, the dreaded move wasn't as bad for her as was feared. Now we have only to mourn our grandma's forgetfulness and hope she doesn't forget us as easily as her new home has helped her forget her old.
